Seems like we can at least change the 'subculture' that we live in by choosing our lifestyle and our associates. I read this great book called "A Reasonable Life" which encourages people to ask if they really need a cellphone, a paved driveway, a credit card, etc. By rejecting portions of the culture-at-large, we can create a subculture that spreads from the home to the community instead of the other way around. The media makes people think that they are immersed in a culture, but aren't the really just partially immersed in several subcultures?  The 'culture' is really just an overview and average-over the sum of the most influential subcultures, no?

Yes ones life is largely determined by ones relationships.

IMAGINAL CAPACITY AND BIRTH OF THE WHOLE PERSON

In order to build a reGenerous economy that supports the humanizing process and stops feeding the machine, we need to get away from the idea that healing, wholing and spirituality should have to be paid for. Abundance is achieved from the healing of our brokenness of body, mind and spirit, thus initiation and developmental practices must be freely available to reinstate the natural spiritual genius of the whole person. Healing and evolution are one. By free and generous building up of whole person consciousness in our communities we stimulate local innovation, creativity, cooperation, thereby promoting the change to the “value-economy.” We obviously can’t establish a genuinely humanizing community from the level of consciousness generated by the exploitive slave/master culture, because it is sustained via brain-damage. Once we overcome the inner and outer pyramidal hierarchical power dynamics and build a new “I” the world is magically transformed. The more of us do it, the more we realize the seed of human potential within, latent and waiting to be released into being. Once we realize how easy evolution is when we drop the old programs, then we will proceed to evolve at geometric speed, along with the natural abundance inherent in spiritual realization.

The conditioned self wants to believe that the old rules, conventional frames of reference and methods will suffice in a world in which the foundations of materialism are crumbling and the pace of change is accelerating. And so rather than grow and mature in the sense of moral atunement to reality through the expansion of consciousness and heart…the majority of people will cling on even tighter to the modes of behavior that are killing us and the planet. This reptilian brain survival pattern is pathological conservativism, which is no doubt related to the infant programming within. Thus giving us the illogical sense that mummy and daddy, God in the sky or the president will look after us and keep us safe if we just do what we are told and be good little children without a mind of our own.

By not facing the damage done to this country by the abusive military-industrial cabal, America may be in for a long protracted mental and spiritual illness, and a continued tip toward pathological conservativism. How America and the world are going to recover from this traumatic patriarchal damage is through a rapid, thorough healing and evolution...out of slave mind and into Self-mastery and autonomy. The repressive nature of the egoic survival program of the machine is due largely to its dissociation from body, soul, earth and cosmos. The Masonic image of the pyramid and Eye of Horus on the American dollar bill is a symbol of both the microcosm and the macrocosm…that it is of both the individual and the entire species of man. The Eye of Horus, or the All Seeing Eye, is separated from the body of the pyramid, suggesting a divorce of consciousness between the body of man and the “I.”

On the dollar bill of the new circle culture humanity the Eye of Horus would be situated at the center of a circle. Thereby illuminating the entire body and soul of mankind without any cloak and dagger games of manipulation, deceit and rape of spirit. Moving beyond anesthetization and denial, only then could we truly say that we “Know Thyself.”

The reptile brain has not been tamed. Which is fine, except that we pretend that it has been tamed. IOW; it’s repressed, pushed into the unconscious and effectively obscured from consciousness. For this reason, many of the ‘body’ impulses appear alien to us when they arise. The mind does not accept that they are part of the ego. So we cannot get our feelings, thoughts, deeds and words to harmonize because of this blind spot. The reptile brain’s ‘need’, in a Maslow sense, for security and satiety should be consciously integrated into our idea of self. This is the only way to harmonize our inner-self and the first step in harmonizing ourselves with the environment.

“it is in the reptilian brain the real answers, the real decisions are made. The cortex gets bypassed by the power of emotion. Emotion is everything; the keys to learning, the keys to imprinting. Yet the cortex serves the purpose of putting a rational face on the decision.” ~ http://wonderfulbrain.wordpress.com/

The Scorpio Myth

Let's look at the figure which symbolizes Scorpio.  In very ancient astrology - Egyptian, Chaldean and Hebrew - Scorpio was represented not by the familiar scorpion, but by the serpent.  This is a profound symbol which tells us a lot about Scorpio.  Firstly, the serpent sheds his skin cynically, and was thought by the ancients to be immortal and capable of constant self-renewal.  Now this pattern of outgrowing a skin, sloughing it and growing a new one runs through Scorpio's life.  Often his life breaks up into distinct chapters, as he moves through one cycle after another.  All come to ultimate destruction.  Then he rebuilds and starts again.

The serpent is also, in ancient mythology, a symbol of the wisdom of the earth itself - timeless, ancient, knowing the secret of life of all things.  He moves close to the ground, and hears the secrets of the roots of things.  In Biblical lore the serpent is the Devil, the Father of Lies, who tempted Eve in the Garden.  He is Lucifer, the fallen angel.  You can see that he has a double face.  You can take him as dark or light, good or evil, for he contains both.  And so does Scorpio.  He has equally great power for good or evil, healing or destruction.  Goethe (who had Scorpio rising) created a typically Scorpionic figure in Faust, caught between the extremes of heaven or hell.

The Scorpion, a more recent development traceable to Greek astrology, is in some ways a less descriptive animal.  But he can give us some valuable clues about the Scorpio temperament.  Firstly, he is an isolated animal.  You don't find herds of scorpions roving the desert munching flies together.  Scorpio, the human being, is also not a collective creature.  He usually dislikes crowds, mistrusts loud, extroverted parties, and prefers a small circle of trustworthy friends or a single lover.  Secondly, although the scorpion is a deadly creature (not all varieties have a fatal sting, but they all give nasty bites), he is completely nonaggressive.  Scorpions will not attack other animals.  On the other hand, if you are silly enough to step on one, well, it's your problem, isn't it?  You should have watched what you were walking on.  Attack this tiny creature and he will move in for the kill no matter how much bigger you are.  Scorpio people have an acute sense of justice.  They don't believe for a minute in all that sentimental stuff about turning the other cheek.  You give back as good as you get, for it's the only way to survive.  Scorpios make bad martyrs - unless, of course, like Ghandi, the posture is necessary to prove a point.

There is a fascinating legend about the scorpion:  if you corner him, and give him no avenue for escape, he will sting himself to death.  This sounds a little apocryphal.  But I have seen it happen.  Once in the south of France I watched a group of children surround a small brown scorpion with sticks, so that it was completely trapped.  It committed suicide.  The message here is that Scorpio would rather destroy himself, and go down in flames by his own hand - literally or psychologically - than submit to another's ultimatum or control.  It's that damnable pride again.  'Better to reign in hell,' as Lucifer says in Milton's Paradise Lost (Milton had Scorpio rising), 'than to serve in heaven.'  If Scorpio ever truly bows his head, he has learned one of the most valuable lessons of his life.  More likely he'll go through the sham of bowing, and pay you back threefold later.  He will usually, in the end, only submit to whatever he understands as his gods.  And he sometimes has some pretty peculiar gods, this enigmatic fellow.  Find a Scorpio who has gone apathetic and outwardly submissive and you'll see someone eaten up from within with furious resentment and jealousy.  Often this is unknown even to himself.  Then you'll come up against real destructiveness, of the worst kind - like in those 'happy' families where the wife quietly sabotages her husband's masculinity and loads her children with guilt in revenge for her unlived life.  Repressed Scorpionic rage isn't pretty.  Nobody promised it would be.  But every Scorpio has the courage to face whatever is in him, and transform it.  As we said earlier, Scorpio has no illusions about life.

There is one famous myth which is particularly fitting for Scorpio.  It's one of the twelve labours of Hercules.  In this particular labour he is told to slay the Hydra.  Beneath the outward success and power, this myth describes Scorpio's real destiny.  Hercules is sent to destroy a large, deadly creature called a Hydra, which inhabits a dark cave in a swamp and preys upon the folk of the countryside.  The Hydra is a serpent-like beast with nine snake heads, each of which is equipped with deadly poison fangs.  A sort of multiple cobra, you might say.  And it has a very nasty propensity:  cut off one of it's heads, and it sprouts three new ones in return.

Hercules at first attempts to club the Hydra to death, then to slice its heads off.  He is about finished, since this results in a proliferation of heads.  Then he remembers a piece of advice given to him by a wise teacher.  The Hydra cannot stand the light.  So Hercules gets down on his knees and lifts the creature up into the sunlight.  It shrivels up and begins to die.  Only one head remains, for that one is immortal, and buried within it is a precious jewel.  But one head is easy for Hercules to handle.  He simply buries it under a rock

The explanation of this myth isn't really necessary for Scorpio.  They usually come, sooner or later, to that place in life where they discover the hydra within themselves.  But some explanation may be of value to the less introspective signs.  We can say that the hydra can mean many things:  jealousy, vengeance, resentment, anger, frustrated sexuality, violence.  Scorpio is a sign of intense desire; and the hydra's many heads can mean the many desires of the uncivilized human heart.  Left to grow in the darkness, they can become poisonous, and begin to destroy others.  But they cannot be dealt with by repression.  They must be understood, held up to the light, respected as part of oneself.  And although vanquished, it is a good idea to remember that one immortal head.  For Scorpio, all human beings carry within them the seeds of good and evil.  Evil is not an abstract thing, or somebody else's fault; it is in everyone.  Human brutality cannot be blamed on society, but ultimately only on oneself.  It is relevant to realize that Freud, the great founder of modern depth psychology, had Scorpio rising.  Therein lies the deepest meaning of Scorpio's myth:  come to terms with the hydra in yourself, and you redeem the world.

In the humanizing process does the reptilian brain need to be tamed? Or does it need to be understood and integrated? Is taming the reptilian brain the same as understanding it and integrating it? Beats me

Deeper Felt Inner Sensing
How do we heal the dissociation between our partial, isolated “I” and our whole integrated Self? Through building inner intimacy and the active imaginal capacity of deep felt sensing our internal landscape…the literal invocation of Presence. Interoception is a term is used to describe the physiological condition of the entire body and the ability of visceral afferent information to reach awareness and affect behavior, either directly or indirectly. It is a deep body listening or inner bodily sensing of the deep inner experience of the body and relates to how we perceive feelings that determine our mood, sense of well-being and emotions.  In becoming more human and moving from the numbness and denial of the machine, we must grow into the full habitation of our body, mind and soul. One necessary aspect of this is sensing within the flow of consciousness and meaning.

Eugene Gendlin, a philosopher and psychotherapist based at the University of Chicago found that successful clients intuitively focused on a very subtle and vague internal bodily awareness, which he termed a "felt-sense." A felt-sense represents the unclear preverbal sense of 'something' experienced in the body, but is not the same as an emotion. This bodily felt-sense of an emergent 'something' may be the felt perception of an idea, word or illumination arising from the subconscious of the body. It is not necessarily of something that can be expressed in words, but as a felt-sense forms it is always tangible. One could say it is a tacit knowing or inner-knowledge.

The focusing practice makes felt-sensing more tangible and easier to express as new words and insights arise from the depths of being. As a felt-shift occurs we are able to move beyond the "stuck" place, having fresh insights, and intuition for new courses of action. Focusing gives one the feel for a connection with life and aliveness, which directly ties into knowing the truth of the moment and rightness for oneself. Empathy is interoception of the visceral simulations of the inner world of others. Combined interoceptive self-awareness along with empathy for others can govern outward actions and in that sense change behaviors more toward the Golden Rule and win-win. However when we are divorced from knowledge of our integrated self, then society has to be held together “externally” through rules, laws, rewards and punishments, rather than from the “internal” sense of truth, goodness and the universal moral sense of right and wrong.

i would put it another way...  what we call the reptillian brain needs to be accepted and included. a big part of man's problem of living in this world is that we have forgotten that we ARE part of Nature, we are animals and always will be. the illusion of the isolated I comes from the more "evolved" part of the brain (for better or worse) and is culturally reinforced by the "intellectual" Western cultures (Greeks) and the Near East religions that were influenced by them. the idea that we are seperate/better than nature and must therefore have dominion and control over everything.  the EGO is the isolated I and should be made transparent and transcended and included.

The “I” is hiding its head in the sand. The ego is an ostrich! It’s pretending that the self is separate from the shadow, by means of compartmentalization and plain old denial.

"One of the clues to projection of shadow content is the degree of negative emotion aroused in us by something in the outside world - often other people." In other words, negative feelings like anger, annoyance, frustration, etc., are like radar that point directly to our un-integrated shadow aspect of ourself.

"1. Identify
First of all, what's bothering you? Really identify what's going on - you can use any means. Whether it's consulting your journal, going for a long walk, or talking to a sympathetic friend, get to the heart of this matter. For example, if you think the issue is that your co-worker irritates you, is he or she the real problem? Dig a bit deeper. Is the real issue something you wish you'd done instead of her? Or perhaps, you're not taking responsibility for yourself in the workplace. Do you need to take initiative, to talk directly to your boss about an issue, or to recognize that it's time for you to move on? Whatever's going on inside, find it - and don't settle for the easy answer, because that's rarely ever it!
2. Experience
Once you've identified the root of what's bothering you, don't push this realization away. Literally, sit with it. Let it sink in, experience it… http://www.californiapsychics.com/articles/Features/374/7_Ways_to_Work_with_Negative_Feelings.aspx

the analysis of the article posted pertains to an individual looking within and taking an honest view of his/her ego-projections.  what it doesn't address is the interactions between two or more "seperate I's" (yes, we are all seperate at some level, ie: waves on the ocean, but ultimately connected). when in the interpersonal realm and there are problems, and you've honestly examined your own possibilites of projection, it is often the "others" problems that are causing the distressful situation.  it is easy to get caught up in someone elses psychodrama and become part of their projections that feed their dysfunctional ego.

Yes, and it can sometimes be difficult to know the difference. For example I might cut ties with someone that appears to me to be projecting negative aspects of their psychodrama onto me. But what happens if I start hanging out with some totally different person and I get the same vibe? Either it's really all my projection after all or else I'm eliciting this type of projection from many people because they are all projecting based on some element in the collective shadow. That said, there is no important practical difference betweeen separate "I"s and separate people, is there? We need to reconcile with them all, don't we? Maybe the differnce is that when we try to cut ties with separate I's (represssion), this causes problems later whereas cutting ties with other people (discretion) can work sometimes, if it's all their problem.

yes,, i like that..  been going thru a situation with a co-worker who definetly has problems, which causes me to look inside myself. but ultimately i can see where his problems are bleeding into my world.  i can't save him (or the world) but i can try to lessen the tension.

The egoic reactive patterns that primarily originate from the reptilian brain need to be understood, accepted and embraced, in  order to be dissolved. Human’s in their need to bluff, dominate and control have forgotten that they ARE Nature. Especially in the last 2 thousand years since the development of the patriarchal religions and the suppression of pagan spirituality that tied us into nature and cosmic cycles through initiation, ceremony, art and ritual. We are animals and always will be. By fully appreciating our animal nature we can develop and bring it to its highest potential. By re-membering our animal nature we recover our cosmic consciousness, that is our highest transanthropomorphic spirituality. The isolationist ego should be made transparent and transcended in order to recover the universal body and the universal spirit within. When we our hooked back into the cosmos, we no longer need the false protection of the ego-armor which causes us nothing but suffering and trouble. wave

Denying, controlling, suppressing, abusing, ridiculing, hating, tormenting and going to war with who we essentially are is a sure fire way to ensure the continuation of the Thanatos machine of destruction into the universe for all eternity.

Yea it all goes back to the heart first and last. Alpha and Omega. take a bow

The feeling of powerlessness many of us feel in the face of our present cultural crisis is not an imposition from authorities...for all authority is largely a fictional replay carried on from our own infantile wiring in response to our parents. The feeling of powerlessness in the face of colossal change is the first step in realizing that there is something to be done in working towards an ideal future within the limitations of the karmic fallout of our own technological creations. As soon as we take up the challenge towards generating our own future, perhaps by joining a transition town movement or inventing new sustainable technology, this sense of powerlessness changes to empowerment. In order to move forward we must take our mind and energy out of the pathological systems of control and predatory commerce and we put our mind and energy into that which sustains the tree of life. Through our commitment to life, we get the future we deserve.

What can we do together to accelerate the shift in consciousness?
Celebrate, global peace music revolution, organization of youth exchange related around mediation and evolution of consciousness, global ambassadors, permaculture universities, model research and education sustainable villages, all new buildings must be eco-friendly by law, relocating urban homeless to permaculture farms on old military bases, permaculture education units in all jails, dismantle Monsanto and jail or reprogram all its employers, establish research centers focused on Origins and Causality in all universities, open sourcing of information, systems for dispersing information on successes around the world, new methods of apprenticeship and credential certification based on experience in advanced communities and institutes around the globe, extended visas for international peace and evolutionary workers, peace and mediation branch of the government that is “bigger” than the war branch and military combined, investment companies focused on evolutionary movies and healthy media products, green credit cards that are non profit and use all funds for green investment, meditation and relaxation taught in kindergarten, Robert Sapolsky’s work on brain damage from primate status dynamics taught in all schools and businesses, information of the fossils of vast numbers of strange hominids from the past released into the public domain so we can better understand our origins and lastly celebrate our awesome opportunity for waking from hell into heaven in order to make it so.

BY THE EVOLUTIONARY LEADERS
The human family is in the midst of the most significant transformation of consciousness since its emergence in Africa over one hundred thousand years ago. Consciousness has been evolving for billions of years from the first cell to us. We are becoming aware that through our own consciousness the universe can know itself. This awareness reveals incredible new potential for our individual and collective humanity.

Simultaneously, we are the first species on this Earth aware that we can destroy ourselves by our own action. This may be the greatest wake-up call to the evolution of consciousness since the origin of Homo Sapiens. We now realize that we are affecting our own evolution by everything we do. This knowledge awakens in us the aspiration to become more conscious through subjective practices including meditation, reflection, prayer, intuition, creativity, and conscious choice-making that accelerate our evolution in the direction of unity consciousness and inspire us to deeply align our collective vision.

THE CHALLENGE
At this juncture in human history, urgent global crises challenge us to learn to live sustainably, in harmony and gratitude with one another and with the living universe. The changes required of humanity are broad, deep, and far-reaching. Only by acting swiftly and creatively can we birth a planetary culture that will bring well-being to every form of life in the Earth community. The good news is that a compelling new story of our potential as a whole human species is emerging - a story of collaboration, citizen action, dialogue, and new understandings propelled by unprecedented levels of democratic freedom, multi-cultural exchange, and access to communication technologies. It is nothing less than the story of our collective evolution.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTION
We recognize that the inner and outer aspects of life evolve together. A dramatic awakening in consciousness will involve an equally dramatic shift in outward aspects of our lives. In particular, we see the following as vital opportunities for our conscious evolution, both personally and collectively:

Cultivating a Paradigm of Aliveness:  We regard the universe as deeply alive and conscious by nature. In a living universe, our sense of subtle connection and participation with life around us is the basis for a compassionate and cooperative approach to living.

Educating for an Evolving Consciousness: Awakening consciousness is the foundation for all the change we seek to see in the world. We can work to elevate our capacity for conscious reflection and creative action in our personal lives as well as our collective lives as communities. We must support research and educational strategies that optimize human capacities and explore the nature of consciousness.

Restoring Ecological Balance:The balance of planetary ecosystems is fundamental to our survival. We must reverse the pollution of our global commons - the water, air, and soil that nourish all life. We must encourage the proliferation of clean, renewable energy sources and expend all necessary resources toward mitigating the effects of climate change.

Encouraging Conscious Media: We must find innovative ways to use the new electronic media as the mirror of our positive evolutionary story, investing in their capacity to reach across differences of generation, culture, religion, wealth, and gender to build a working consensus about our collective future.

Engaging in Social and Political Transformation: More sustainable ways of living will require the support of a more conscious democracy and vibrant civil society from which more enlightened leaders will emerge. All individuals should be encouraged to use their gifts to create participatory, responsible, and compassionate models of governance.

Working for Integrity in Commerce: Conscious businesses that are aware of the scope, depth, and long-range impacts of their actions are key to achieving sustainability. Business must become an ethical steward of the Earth's ecology and consciously establish an economic basis for a future of equitably shared abundance.

Promoting Health and Healing: The science of mind-body-spirit health has demonstrated the profound connection between the health of a wholeperson and the health of the system in which he or she lives. Whole-systems healing, respecting both traditional knowledge and modern sciences, must be supported in physical, social, and spiritual domains.

Building Global Community: The new story is about all of us who share this planet. Together, we can create a culture of peace that eliminates the need for armed conflict, respecting and appreciating the glorious diversity of our human family.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VITAL
Our group has done its best to articulate possibilities for the evolution of consciousness at this crucial moment in time. Please reflect on this document, feel what resonates in your being and calls forth a response on your part. We invite you to discuss it with others, continuing this global conversation by adding to it the wisdom that is uniquely your own. Together, let us co-create a new narrative of conscious evolution that is a call to individual and collective action, birthing the most significant transformation of consciousness in history. Join in the Call to Conscious Evolution by signing the pledge now.

Now we’re in a position to identify the root cause of all evil thoughts: repressed negative emotions. Of course evil thoughts give rise to evil deeds. I don’t think that negative emotions should be “expressed” in terms of any unguarded reactions; rather I think they should be recognized, and a response should be formulated and executed. As the president says; we cannot govern out of anger, like the last guy did. It seems to me that negative emotions typically all arise out of fear and that the right way to respond is to ask: Is my fear or other negative emotion reasonable, given the circumstances? What did I do that allowed me to be in this position? What did I expect to happen when I put myself in the situation that led to this? How can I now change my circumstances in order to feel better? How can I avoid this problem from coming up again? Answer all these consciously and then respond openly, consciously, appropriately, deliberately and decisively to mitigate the feeling, focusing on the root cause as you perceive it.

Interestingly, positive emotions are very dangerous too. They can blind us to serious potential danger.
