The Jung and the Restless

Quote
Consciousness succumbs all too easily to unconscious forces, and these are often truer and wiser than our conscious thinking ~ Jung
Humans are hard-wired to powerful reward and punishment circuits operating in our cerebral hardware. The reward or “pleasure” circuit is activated by various pleasurable activities, sex among them. The negative “punishment” circuits, which initiate the experiences of pain, suffering and fear are the most powerful of all. Once activated, these negative circuits tend to overwhelm consciousness, driving out positive feelings without effort. As Pearsall says “Bad trumps good” is the rule here. He goes on to say, “Because of the dominant power of bad and the evolutionary imperative of our ever-ready, quick and intense reaction to it, we are typically unprepared to be elated by the good that life has to offer.”
As a society we tend to be restless, hyper-vigilant and over-alert, always on the lookout for threats (Sapolsky). Evolution has endowed us with unconsciously activated, negative circuits as a defense against potential threats. On the one hand, evolution has endowed us with this marvelously effective emergency defense system (the negative circuits), but on the other hand, too much negative circuit activation diminishes our quality of life and drowns out the still, small voice of our personal essence.
It’s clear that the most fundamental evolutionary imperative is survival of the species. It is logical therefore that the evolutionary imperatives inherited by each individual are
individual survival and procreation
. These two can be expanded and are perhaps best described as the drives for
safety, sustenance and sex
.
Our brains are hard-wired by evolution and natural selection to seek these imperatives first. The wiring activates powerfully reinforcing pleasure circuits and, even more powerful, negatively reinforcing circuits, located in the hardware of our brains. We are slaves to the arbitrary and unconscious whims of a soulless mechanism, evolution.
But wait – it gets worse. Most of us can only get our needs for safety, sustenance and sex met by participating in a society. Society has been given the authority to reward or punish and we are therefore dutifully bound to obey all of the whims and mores of our social set, in order to satisfy our innate evolutionary imperatives. So, in addition to our inherited evolutionary imperatives, we have an extra layer of social imperatives to which to contend or acquiesce.
All of these prerequisite imperatives are imposed on us without regard for our personal, individual preferences (Boo-hoo!). Our unique
personal
essence is buried and obscured by these dominant
collective
imperatives. Our essence has its own set of personal imperatives. These personal imperatives can be uncovered and honored, once the collective imperatives are satiated. Satisfaction of the collective imperatives, allows our essence to emerge and be heard. As Jung says, “In the place of the inner voice, there is the voice of the group with its conventions, and the inner voice is replaced by collective necessities.” This is our challenge: to allow the inner voice or “true vocation” of the individual to emerge from the din of the collective imperatives.
Aside from securing a complete satisfaction of the collective imperatives, there is another approach. This approach can perhaps best be called
partial renunciation
, wherein we reject the authority of our imposed imperatives, both evolutionary and social. We temporarily suspend their power over our psyche, in order to allow room for our essence to emerge, unhindered and unfettered. Typically this involves some sort of “meditation” or “play” The stream of consciousness is broken, allowed to drift without a heading, and without the unsteady hand of collective imperatives steering the rudder. The search for personal imperatives is a random process of hit-or-miss. But past experiences that chanced to be memorable can provide clues. Can we remember any spontaneous experiences that elicited feelings of gratitude, enjoyment, curiosity, positive-awe, love, pride or compassion? This is a good place to start.

One Guy's approach:
"Thought Viruses : Discovering Your Quintessential Self
Are you one of those people who believe that your life, your job, or your business should provide you with much greater meaningfulness than it does? That you should have a truck load more fulfilment and free time? And, that you should feel good about yourself with a lot less stress and be confident in the security that you are good at handling problems?
STOP NOW. Ponder these following questions, and begin the journey to what you are truly capable of achieving and being.
Can you see how the same old ‘attack-thoughts’ keep on repeating on you, destroying your awareness and bringing to you exactly what you didn’t want?
Can you see how this Repetitive Problem Syndrome works? How these attack-thoughts primarily keep you focussed upon what you don’t want and then they actually increase the possibility of you attracting to yourself that very thing?
Can you see how these same-old thought routines prevent you from being creative, confident and inspired?
Can you see how your personal productivity is undermined by these repetitive patterns of thought?
Can you see how your thoughts carve out an habitual groove that if not investigated and challenged becomes like a computer program that actually runs you?
Can you see that thoughts such as doubt, fear, worry and insecurity are the root cause of your troubles and problems?
Can you see that the program in your head causes a perpetual uneasiness and dissatisfaction in you that is like a viral infection?
Can you see that when you are infected with Thought Viruses that it is then impossible to perform excellently and experience that optimal, “in the zone”, flow state?
Can you see that unless you have some new ‘performance tools’ so that you can begin eradicating your Thought Viruses, then you cannot achieve your personal potential
Just as nobody can avoid infection from all the epidemics of biological viruses, nobody can avoid all the destructive psychological viruses that force you to underachieve and perpetuate your problems. Even families, friends and partners do not always help you, because they can be infected also.
Our predicament is summed up by Voltaire who said that; “Every man is the creature of the age in which he lives; very few are able to raise themselves above the ideas of their time.”
Psychologists tell us that we think about 66,000 thoughts per day. (I am always curious as to how they work out figures like this.) The challenge is that for most people, they are virtually the same thoughts as yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that.
The natural tendency of the human mind is to keep things the same unless we make conscious choices and decisions to the contrary. Even then, we will have to work with some kind of reinforcement process for the new ways of thinking to being to 'stick'.
This reinforcement process is what you will find here at this perpetually growing web site. This is a PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION site. You will find a growing body of work here that will enable you to free yourSelf from the same old 66,000 thoughts that are automatically controlling you. It is as if you have an inner entity that does not want the best for you. Have you ever noticed that the entity that is within you can sabotage even your best intentions and attract into your life the very things you do not want?
These thought programs are as if you have a saboteur gremlin who keeps messing things up for
you. If you do not know what your ‘inner saboteur’ is actually doing to you, you will never get near the life of your dreams. Or, has your Gremlin already told you through his constant inner chatter that it is futile to make any plans about your future? Or, that you are unworthy? (Thought Viruses are always dishing out undeservedness and unworthiness!) When the program in your head is controlling you, the fulfilment of your dream and any potential will remain dormant within you.
The 66,000 thoughts per-day literally possess you and prevent ‘wonderful’ even being considered. (Or, if something fabulous does happen for you, your assistant personal saboteur can very quickly turn it into a living nightmare for you!)
Whatever is new or just different is usually seen by the inner Gremlin as being uncomfortable and will be perceived as if it is outside of your comfort zone. (Those 66,000 thoughts create your comfort zone!) Your assistant Gremlin will interpret everything for you, if you let him!
Whether we call these routines your Gremlin, ‘program’, ‘inner saboteur’, ‘inner critic’ or just simply, your ego, they all amount to the same thing. Underperformance, mediocrity, and destructive relationships. What you will discover from all the Pod casts, books, adobe files and technologies from this site is that your inner saboteur is a creation of your automatic thoughts and if left unchallenged, destroys your real essence and presence.
Whatever the state and condition your thoughts are in today, they have enabled you to get as far as you have now. It is most likely that they will not get you to where you want to go. This is usually referred to as a psychological law; so within, so without. Or, as you are thought, so you are. However, by becoming aware of your thoughts and by using the technologies available here, you will access your naturally creative, confident and inspired Self.
By understanding and using just some of the Performance Tools provided throughout this work, you will begin to wake-up to the optimal performer within you. This I call your Quintessential Self and it may just be the greatest element of your ‘Self’ worth fighting for. Summed up beautifully in a poem by the poet e. e. cummings: "To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you just like everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight."
You can obtain access to a range of FREE Pod casts from Stuart by visiting: Stuarts Pod cast Site
Dr Paul Stolz, author of ‘The Adversity Advantage’ and ‘The Adversity Quotient’ says in the forward to the book ‘Discovering Your Quintessential Self’:
“Some writers inspire. Others research and instruct. Few can do both. To the tremendous benefit of you, the reader, Stuart has achieved the Herculean task of integrating some of the most evolved thinkers of our time, weaving their best work into a single integrated strand of wisdom.
Thought Viruses is a truly integral achievement that is both provocatively inspirational, and intellectually stimulating. Each page is packed with more gems than some entire bookstore shelves. And rather than being targeted to the despondent and broken, this book is for anyone who wishes more from life.
Now is the time to address the deep, inner viruses that can hinder us from ever taking that first step. In this readable and potentially transformational work, Stuart shines a vital light on the mental disease or Thought Viruses that can hobble our effectiveness and fulfilment.
Like termites eating away the framing of one’s home, Thought Viruses can weaken, even collapse, one’s optimism, energy and momentum. How much life is wasted worrying about life? As Stuart makes clear, with the proper principles and practices, you can readily begin to close the gap between your current and ideal life, living more fully in each moment”.
When the program in your head is controlling you, the fulfilment of your dream and any potential will remain dormant within you

There is always a program in ones head, just better make sure the program serves one.
When the negative limiting programs in your head control you, the fulfillment of your dream and any potential remain latent within you. In growing a life one must "dare" to dream and "believe" in the realization of the dream.
In dealing with an obsolete and dysfunctional cultural operating system we have to be willing to "unplug" from the existing one and remain in creative limbo, or quantum space, until informed by new currents of being. Thus the first stage is letting go: We “let go” of the fear-based ego that keeps the pyramidal model intact through moving into our armor, resistance, numbness and pain, to bring breath, Spirit and warmth into the void. This is an art of clearing, detoxing, fasting, resting, waiting, sensing, dreaming and exploring. The second stage is filling up: The more time we remain in bliss and Flow the more we are reprogrammed into a love based operating system.

"Neurosis Unplugged", sounds like a show for mtv. People stay plugged in too long and don't let go long enough to see "what's happening" If you don't unplug once in awhile, there's a danger of coming unhinged. To unplug was at one time the function of holidays, and the sabbath, now it seems like holidays need to brim with stimulation or people get depressed for the lack of stimulation. Then again, nothing is right for everybody. They probably think I'm crazy.

Anyway when I read this: "Most of us can only get our needs for safety, sustenance and sex met by participating in a society. It seemed to me you had found your workshop modality...to help people differentiate the desires of their unique personal essence through stripping away the needs, shoulds and musts of the cultural matrix.

Help people? You're probably right. I don't claim to have unveiled my own essence completely. Does the original post make sense to you? I almost feel as though I 'channeled' it.
I had two alternative titles:
Unveiling Your Essence
and
More New Age Narcissism

Yea its great, very lucid.
Hence your title will not exactly sell. Ego dissolution has to flatter the ego and be humorous.
Since all dysfunction/narcissism is due to our being "cut off" from our original, primordial, cosmic, transcendent essence, we cannot really beat ourselves up for the pain and fear underlying our separated condition. In that we are already bruised, battered, deprived and satiated on saccharine to fill our emptiness...ego dissolution needs to be fun, energizing, opening, warming, revealing and ecstatic. Initiation to life beyond the layers of separation will eventually become joyous once humanity gives up its punitive, intimidating pretentious stance.
Enlightenment is to be aware of ones ignorance...this is recognition of the mystery...the unknown and unknowable. Slowly we awaken through one layer of delusion after another. That in itself has a kind of dignity. A raw compassionate wound of growing sensitivity and care. A new vision is forming from seeds deep within our flesh bearing knowledge of the true way.
As we emerge from the sleep of the ages, we learn to differentiate the desires of our unique personal essence through stripping away the needs, shoulds and musts of the cultural matrix. In-tuition, that is knowledge from the inside, is simply being one with all that is. Being with Being. Opening to the opening process.

I picture it as if we're blocking the flow ourselves and unveiling the personal essence is like opeing up and allowing the flow, pulling out the stops. As it flows, it's
affected
by our innate dispostion and individual circumstance, but it is less
hindered
by these factors. We therefore feel less "blocked"

Yes ego is dissonance to the harmonic resonance of Spirit—number 9, the etheron, Theta particle, frequency, firing rate, activation sequence. 9 is the center that everything spins out of in logarithmic spirals. The more Spirit is allowed to flow (ie: Cosmic Consciousness) the more bliss of the return is felt as we vibrate to the music of the spheres (zeropoint). The conical helical shape of our spiralic biogenics is held in place by this higher formative template called God, represented by the number 9.
"There is no point in warring when it's all connected is there." Marko Rodin
Way cool, the Freemansonry symbol of the square and the compass with G for God in the middle is the same as Rodin's Sacred Numerology structure.
In the “begger” religions of the deprivation state the notion of God and religion is the ego's attempt to grasp, control, command, bargain and plea-with the creator force. Eventually we will be so evolved that we will shut up, and there will only be "being with the Being."

i look at it as just getting out of the way of ourselves. it's easier to remind oneself and to communicate it to others. the internal essence and the ego will sort itself out subconciously.

Raw Propaganda Inspired by Rodin
Knowing the physics of the Universe it is obvious that there can be no go-between an individual and God (#9). For God is omnipotent and omniscient and thus is closer to us than we are to ourselves. A monolith, church, priest or Guru can however, help atune us to the activation sequence of the “God Frequency.”
The existing cooked culture is structure dismantling, tissue dissolving, energy entropic—Spirit having lost its capacity to perfectly order matter, thought and energy within a life-resistant species. All life is constructed via the hexagonal matrices of the water molecule. Dead, non-living food molecules have lost their principle structural template and much energy and time is needed to rework the molecules into living tissue; which while living is never as vibrant/vibratory as it otherwise would have been. Thus you see the go-between, the intermediary between us and God is the perfection of the crystalline structure of our own flesh, blood and bone. For it is through our atomic structure that we can enter into coherence with the divine—in perfect truth, perfect beauty and perfect joy.
Besides the statement “Only raw is real,” the ultimate raw propaganda is this: Food that has been damaged by heat, cold, chemicals or radiation is monkey-hurt-food. It is energy-losing rather than energy-winning; and where energy goes so goes form. In this way atom by atom over the course of time we abdicate and negate our potential humanity. Low conscious food makes low conscious people.
