Just to let you know, the forum server went down for a while last night (Wed 8-28-08), so I took the opportunity to do what I had been planning anyway for a week or so - that is to move the forum to a new server.  So I've done that now, and am still testing.

The main pending issue still is that the frontpage newsfeeds are broken.  I can't seem to figure out why that would be happening, so am again taking the opportunity - this time, to upgrade the forum software in hopes that might do the trick.  So I'll be working on that for the next little while, and I'll keep you posted...

Quick update:

The efforts of software upgrades proved futile...for the moment.  The available upgrades had nothing to offer by way of substantial improvements, (including solving the frontpage feeds problem).  All they accomplished was to change the appearance of some things, and crash the chatbox.  So no upgrades for now.

The frontpage feeds are now being created via new PHP scripts uploaded to the server, and are not part of the forum software.

Another announcement:

The new server I moved the forum to is proving a bit unreliable.  You may have noticed a marked increase of "page not available" pageloads recently.  Very annoying.

So I've decided to move the forum back to the old server, where it's a bit more expensive and a bit more inconvenient, but at least the server is proven reliable.

So I'll try to do that this weekend sometime, perhaps tonight. (Saturday 10-18-08)  So if you try to login and the forum's unavailable for a few hours, that'll be what's happening.

i think i found out today that it may cost mD $500.00+ for a website server. i will be doing a membership drive in the spring and until then, the least we owe him is huge appreciation ...henry

There was a good article recently on Heartmind's homepage about the Mercurial nature of internet/forum communication. Ruled by the god mercury with his healing staff of Caduceus, messages from the gods miraculously travel around the planet at the speed of light, knocking our socks off in amazement . The shadow side of Mercury is that he is a trickster/deceiver, patron of thieves functioning in dusk/dawn twilight. So forum mis-communication, turbulence, annoyance and frustration may be part of the territory, the nature of the beast . Something could be genuinely authentically Wrong or the Old Trickster might be yanking our chain . As my esalen hero/friend richard price used to say, "the situation is hopeless, but not serious". Okay, that was harsh.  I hate not taking the high-road in this kind of thing, and I'm inclined to remove the last post, but I also really want this stuff to be heard.  Simply because I care about the state of the forum and its members.  I don't want anyone here to leave, but I feel like things have sort of gotten out of hand.

I want to encourage some perspective to return to the forum.  And I'd like to encourage everyone here, including myself to consider not acting in reflexive ways.  To consider what we want this forum to be...

Huge start to the spring membership drive today

Hi Henryji,

I'll be the first to respond to your membership drive. I've spent the last couple of years offline attending to some "in the flesh" stuff, but today I felt the impulse to consider dropping back in to Cyberia. I was looking forward to slinging some ideas with Jana. It feels a little weird to be coming in the door while she's talking about leaving. I am hoping that she might consider sticking around.

I know it is hard being the new kid in town, but all the rest of us go back maybe to 2004. I joined late, feral a little later. I met this crew, MichaelD and Jimtzu and Marianthi and Jane and Liz from Scotland and whatshisname the nurse and Jana, not to mention henry the wise in Feb. 2005. We can read each other's minds. MichaelD and I ran neck and neck for the highest plus points per post for months on Integral Naked. He had a solid fan base and (as it turned out later) I had a secret girl friend.

This dust-up has nothing to do with you Francis. I know that might be a little hard to take, but if you can play good'nuff catch up, join the crew.
