whodda thunk that old IN forum apostate henry would be heartmind's correspondent for "the great integral awakening" Huh?. Steve McIntosh's philosophical theoretical approach to integral reflects the Wilber 5 phenomenon that has befuddled this curmugeon since the turn of the century Undecided. For all the post-post modern protestations, the strategy or geist feels modern to me. And i really don't know what i'm talking about....is it me or has the hysteria around the "integral movement" waned a wee bit? blame it on Helen Roll Eyes

Henry,
You wrote: "is it me or has the hysteria around the "integral movement" waned a wee bit?"

It is a sinking ship, my friend. All that we have to keep us afloat is the force within the first chakra.  See you on shore.

It gave me a chance to learn a lot, and I found some pretty great people to learn alongside. It made sense of lots of things for me, in ways that fitted for me.I had no idea loads of other people thought the same thoughts.I think that was a common feeling, many of us were pretty stuck for people with whom we could swop ideas. Now it seems there are more people with useful things to offer and Wilber is his own "true but partial" self fulfilling prophecy

am curious.  how's wilber handling his own self-fulfilled prophecy of 'true but partial'?

with denial?  recognition?  grace?

Cousin Liz, you are so admirably loyal bow. One incident that spoke volumes to me was the good gathering of you core IN members in Boulder when the forum was at the peak of its popularity. Mr. Wilber couldn't be bothered and sent a couple of his lackeys. Had sharon stone been there, he would have arrived with a case of guinness. And i do think his theoretical and philosophical maps have been helpful and inspirational to many. His people skills and integrity could stand a wee tweaking. Tough being a Celebrity

post script: if a group of nice people that represented $100,000 a month to me/my imaginary institute traveled to my hometown from around the world, i hope i would force myself to bathe, put on my coolest Celestial Seasonings t-shirt, call my chauffeur, and go sign autographs for an hour or so at their "no tell motel" (room 225?). But i'm not the Wizard of Oz Cool. And the wizard turned out to be a pretty decent bloke after all Handshake

Oh I think it was always pretty obvious that ken and I-I simply didn't "get" IN..nor its income raising potential till after it had lost it altogether.

We had a lovely time in Boulder, actually we never invited Ken and I have no idea if he knew we were there, he wasn't living in the loft by then.

If loyalty now means refusing to say it was all shit when it wasn't, sue me:-)

How many of us would ever have known each other at all without Integral, if it did no more than bring us together, it was worthwhile.

MIchael, I only read the books, I never met or spoke or exchanged correspondence with the writer. I have no idea.I was always a bit puzzled about how the author of the books semed almost to have a "following". I have no basis to judge the man behind the books. Running an organisation wasn't his forte, but I know no more than that.

How are you? Good to see you

for all his railing's about academia and the establishment, it sure seemed like he was desperately trying to be accepted.  i think the "not getting it" is part of his shadow. the bigger the ego, the larger shadow that is cast.  it's the hight of egotism to think one can identify one's own shadow, i think that's the reason the rest of us are here for.   Beats me

i wonder what my shadow is....

That's very profound Jim.  Thanks for that...

Here's a little something to help that idea along.

I miss her too.

She's still around though, just had to leave the scene because a few people became very scared and angry at the shadow they thought she was casting.

Another IN casualty...

Shadow theme park says it nicely henry!  beer

Precisely because Ken Wilber cannot be in dialogue with all who are interested and compelled by an Integral Weltanschauung, there stands a good chance that the excluded outsiders, dissenters, and outcasts could represent the true heart of the Integral Movement: that while the Inner Circle is busy defending and maintaining the purity of their interpretations, others are busy with the business of continuing to live the Integral Life, in the same spirit as a Renaissance man or woman, a Samurai, or a Sri Aurobindo. ~ http://www.integralworld.net/peckinpaugh.html

yes Francis, thanks. One of the GIA presenters spoke about the "golden shadow" which includes "others are busy with the business of continuing to live the integral life".
