Generally girls are unconsciously programmed as the submissive server...and so this promotes an identity that needs others in order to serve them. Within a patriarchal model the subordinate's sense of safety, security, worth, well-being, stability and status are thus achieved by "service." In order to go on the alchemical quest of individuation and find our true life's passion we must kill the dominating inner patriarch in order to mature into sovereign responsibility and freedom. This then permits a sacred marriage between the masculine (left) and feminine (right) sides of the brain. In this way we can stop the cerebral castration that prevents full development of the sacred feminine working in harmony with the sacred masculine and thereby create the whole person...whether male or female. For males it may be the subversive negative matriarch they have to kill. (Kill here means expose, understand and release). Once this "work" is done, there is the possibility of two whole individuals engaging in an energy generating relationship.

Jana, it's good you include both patriarchy and matriarchy as they both have their dark side and both are well known to undermine the sacred side of the feminine and masculine. The patriarchal shadow which seeks to control the feminine is much more widely discussed and published than the dark side of matriarchy, which can be destructive and limiting as well. Both of course in their dark side set a bad example and have a negative impact upon their own gender for their actions as well as upon the genders they supress.

Here's something from our American political world. Matriarchy in power helping women in distress over issues and problems in health care in America. Health Care reform (which is really at this point simply health insurance reform, and a partial reform at that. But that's another whole topic until itself!)

The Tao, or Great Ultimate, is a universal explanatory principle. Yin and Yang, describes the union of opposites, where contrasting or even contradictory perspectives on reality and that come together are more comprehensive than either of them alone. The yin and yang represent all the opposite principles one finds in the universe. Under yang are the principles of maleness, the sun, creation, heat, light, Heaven, dominance, and so on, and under yin are the principles of femaleness, the moon, completion, cold, darkness, material forms, submission, and so on. Each of these opposites produce the other. In order to maintain “flow” between  two halves neither can be dominant or submissive…instead it is more appropriate to think in terms of radiant and receptive, expressive or listening. It is only a culture that is already unbalanced - the early Han dynasty (207 B.C.-9 A.D.) – that would assume that the masculine principle signifies dominance and the feminine principle represents submission. In reality if a society is composed of females that are not sovereign, then neither are the males. For both the yin and yang are equal expressions of the one energy of Source, and sovereignty is the pure emanation of Source. When the both the sexes and hemispheres are both radiant and receptive, expressive or listening then we have a sacred marriage - where the relative reflects the universal. The perfect union of opposites is synonymous with the evolutionary movement of the Universe’s unfolding. So anything short of sovereignty is just tardy. Lips Sealed

In order to go on the alchemical quest of individuation and find our true life's passion we must kill the dominating inner patriarch in order to mature into sovereign responsibility and freedom. Kill is definitely the wrong word here...for resistance to resistance is futile. take a bow

“Culture is a simplification and a lie. It’s the currency by which fools navigate the world. Smart people get beyond it.”  Terence McKenna

Apparent dualistic opposites (god/devil, good/evil, light/dark, angel/demon, union/separation etc.) can be interpreted in terms of health versus sickness. Health is “biophila” or moving toward life and light. While “biocide” is disease, or moving toward death and darkness. The Borg, the dragon, evil, darkness, rigidity and fascism...are terms to express our underlying social disease processes, both mentally and physically, individually and socially. Wilhelm Reich and Bioenergetics names this collective mass neurosis the “Emotional Plague.” This contagious emotional plague leads to degraded social interactions and the loss of health, authenticity, honesty, beauty, love and sovereignty at the personal and social level over the course of human history. As we achieve whole health we can perceive with the tacit rationality of the life force (Eros) the level of sickness or health in all aspects of our human constructed world. http://wikicompany.org/wiki/911:Mass_neurosis

From the neurotic hierarchical culture we have internalized a punitive, oppressive matriarch and patriarch as the censor regulating function of our superego that resides largely in our prefrontal lobes. We must free ourselves from the Terrible Mother and the Devouring Father archetypes in order to go on the alchemical quest of individuation and find our true life's passion and to mature into sovereign responsibility and freedom. How can we spontaneously flower in response to nature's flows, without our shoulds and knows getting in the way? Pitting ourselves against the dominating inner patriarch or subversive negative matriarch only cuts us off from Eros...for resistance to resistance is futile. Going into combat mode against the superego only further aggravates our defense mechanisms (Dissociation, Denial, Displacement, Delusion, Sublimation, Rationalization, Escapism, Egotism).

We can get past the resistance to growth presented by our own punitive superego and its defense mechanisms by putting ourselves in situations where we don’t have access to our normal means of resistance. Such as fasting in nature, threshold entheogens like ayahuasca and iboga, prolonged hydrotherapy, gestalt type playshops and other events where spontaneous novelty or the demand to be real is ongoing. In the place of "passive censorship" the sovereign develops “active sensorship” to regulate their thoughts and behavior with regards to the social world. Thus we move from a worldview of shame, blame, damage and error, to one in which our subtle instincts, feminine intuition and spiritual magnetic power are able to develop naturally.

"Liberty is to the collective body what health is to every individual body. Without health, no pleasure can be tasted by man; without liberty no happiness can be enjoyed by society."  Thomas Jefferson
