How many worlds would we need if everyone lived like us? Take the quiz.Even with my diligent conservation efforts I scored a disappointing 4.2 planets. This year I'm resolving to do better.

Welcome Greg! Nice you could drop in. I loved your prayer thread!
My EcoFootprint quiz turned up the following results:
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.6 PLANETS.
I would like to see a more detailed quiz, this is a good idea here...

i came up with 3.1 planets... kind of surprising for my semi-monk-like existence. but there is virtually no public transportation here. i imagine living in the burbs in the US has a lot to do with it. btw... gym sioux is a little play on my screen name that's been going around here

I sure would like to see a more detailed quiz too but I thought it was a good place to start. I came across it in one of my college classes. It seems like living modern life forces a person to be wasteful. Like if theres no public transit system what choice does a person have? I love the wind and solar power ideas but what does a person do if they live in a small apartment? My small ways of conserving don't seem to have any impact whatsoever or maybe they just don't show up in the quiz.

I found a more detailed quiz here.My "Living Lightly" score was 165. This quiz gave me a better idea of things that I could do to help my environmental impact. I also found this personal CO2 calculation quiz.

Ha, ha, Michael. Take heart. I looked at the quiz and did not even dare take it. I was a Human Ecology prof for a couple of years. M.

Marianthi, mi Griega hermosa, you wrote: I looked at the quiz and did not even dare take it. If you were only lucky enough to live in a Let's Join the Developing World Next Year Country and inched along like me and the other folks in Venzla. then you would only need 1.0 planets to get along and still only pay $1.25 (U.S.) for a full tank of gasoline. The trick is to have 8 people, four dogs, two rabbits, two cats and one middle-weight turtle living in the house or just outside. They have provisions for turtles in a footnote on the test due to their unerring ability to propagate tomato plants everywhere in their wake. SN

Greg thanks for the quiz. I took it, I was 2.8 Earths. If I became a vegetarian maybe I could cut back to 2.5 Earths. They need to add this question to the quiz - "Do you drink illegal coffee"? Brands sell illegal Indonesian coffee, threaten rare species : WWF
by Nabiha Shahab
Global food giants Nestle and Kraft Foods and coffee giant Starbucks have sold coffee illegally grown in a key conservation area for endangered tigers and rhinos, WWF said.
The coffee comes from the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park on the southern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island, which is home to about 40 Sumatran tigers, of which there are fewer than 400 left in the wild, the conservation group said.
It is also home to about 500 Sumatran elephants, a quarter of the remaining population, and 60 to 85 critically endangered Sumatran rhinos.
Despite its importance as a conservation area and World Heritage Site, nearly 20 percent of the park has been cleared for illegal coffee cultivation, the WWF said in a report titled "Gone in an Instant". Dan

"I was a Human Ecology prof for a couple of years."
Sounds interesting Marianthi. I worked in a Power Plant when I got out of high school for Hatfield Electric. It was a union job to prepare me for being a Journeyman. I remember the huge smoke stacks billowing forth thick columns of smoke (it was a coal burner). The cooling lake was next to the power plant, dead fish floating everywhere. The coal dust blowers inside the plant were so loud that you had to yell directly into each others ears to communicate. Hey, do you think hearing loss was a job hazard? The year was 1977, Illinois. I worried about pollution back then, some people thought I was just nuts or too far on the edge along with those long haired hippies. Needless to say I didn't last.
